We are writing to express our continued frustration that the Ontario government has taken no action to stop the development of multi-million-dollar homes on the Millcroft Golf Course — a development that will destroy precious green space in Burlington and permit building on or near floodplains where flooding regularly occurs.

The Millcroft Golf Course is completely embedded within our community since  the 1980’s and was designed to function as a flood management system for stormwater events. Losing it will not only affect Millcroft residents but will increase flood risk downstream in south Burlington and Oakville.

Burlington already faces a greenspace shortage and has more than met the Province's housing targets. Despite this, the Ontario Land Tribunal — in case OLT-22-004149 — has set a dangerous precedent for Burlington and for Ontario as a whole, by allowing a Major Park and Open Space designation to be rezoned for residential use, infilling the existing golf course with 228 homes.

We are also aware of the two competing Minister's Zoning Order applications currently before the province (ERO 026-0550 and ERO 026-0551), involving the City of Burlington and Millcroft Greens Corporation. We urge you to resolve these in favour of protecting this land, not developing it.

We are appealing to you to exercise decisive leadership: protect this greenspace, and do not allow building on or near floodplains that will worsen existing flooding.

We ask your government to step in and say no to development on or near floodplains — before work begins. As the Premier has said, "communities know best." We ask you to support this community. We ask you to protect this community. We ask you to listen to your electorate.

We strongly support the City of Burlington in its pursuit of a declared provincial interest in Millcroft's open space, to prevent the permanent, irreversible loss of Burlington's already limited green space and to prevent increased flooding.

We respectfully request that the Premier of Ontario issue a Ministerial Zoning Order restoring the Millcroft Golf Course to its Open Space designation, as it existed prior to the June 12, 2024 OLT decision.
