City Offered To Buy Millcroft
Burlington Today Article: February 24, 2024
The City of Burlington offered to acquire Millcroft Golf Course for $15 million, according to a statement released on social media by mayor Marianne Meed Ward and Ward 6 councillor Angelo Bentivegna.
In a now-deleted post, they said formal discussions between the city and ARGO Development Corporation ended without agreement. It is unclear why the post was taken down.
“Recently, our staff followed up those discussions with a letter expressing the city’s interest to acquire the lands for $15 million – representing roughly three times what they purchased the land for in 2020,” the statement reads. “We have now received information confirming that Argo are not willing to sell its land to the City.”
Bentivegna and community group Millcroft Against Development did not respond to BurlingtonToday’s request for comment. Meed Ward’s team said she is still gathering information, and will have more to share in the coming days.
“While we were hoping for a different outcome, we will continue to advocate for saving Millcroft,” the statement reads. “Our best hope continues to be provincial intervention through a Ministers Zoning Order that preserves the land as parks and open space.”
