The City of Burlington’s request for a provincial order preserving existing open space at Millcroft Golf Club is open for a 30-day public comment period.
Burlington’s request for a Minister’s Zoning Order (MZO), originally submitted a year ago, was posted on the Environmental Registry of Ontario on Monday, June 22 and is open for comment until July 22.
The city’s request was originally paused while the city and 2155 Country Club Rd. owner Millcroft Greens, a partnership of the golf club and Argo Development Corporation, participated in a provincial facilitation process last year that did not bring any results.
A competing MZO request from Millcroft Greens, asking the province to issue an order overriding the existing open space zoning to allow 138 new homes on parts of the golf course not approved for development, was posted June 5 and open for comments until July 5.
The requests both involve remaining golf course land that is not part of a Ontario Land Tribunal decision permitting 90 homes and a 130-unit apartment building on parts of the golf course, which is operating this year over nine holes.
City councillors this week approved submitting a staff report opposing Millcroft Greens’ MZO request, as its submission to the Environmental Registry posting.
Burlington planning staff are currently reviewing an official plan amendment application from Millcroft Greens for the proposed new development on remaining golf course land.
