Less Than A Month Away
The Ontario Land Tribunal (“OLT”) Hearing is less than one month away starting on March 5, 2024. We wanted to provide everyone with an update as well as encourage you to donate to MAD so that we will be able to effectively oppose this application at the OLT Hearing.
Key achievements since the last update:
Have over 1,500 signatures on a petition supporting the City of Burlington resolution to ask the Province to take an active role against the application at the OLT hearing. The petition was brought before both the City of Burlington and Halton Region councils.
Have coordinated the sending of close to 1,000 letters to the Minister of Housing, Doug Ford and our local MPP’s urging them to stop the development and participate at the OLT Hearing.
Have stayed in constant contact with Marianne Meed-Ward and Angelo Bentivegna from the City of Burlington as well Effie Triantafilopoulos, our local MPP, to continue to encourage the Ontario government to stop this development.
Have submitted our Witness Statement to the OLT from our planning expert (Allan Ramsay) as well reviewed all of the other parties witness statements and other submissions to prepare our case.
Continued with our social media campaign to raise awareness, sign petitions, send letters to the Ontario government and fund raise.
What we are working on now:
To date there has been no response from the Province in respect to the motion from the City of Burlington and the Region of Halton asking the Provincial government to stop the development or alternatively actively participate in the OLT hearing. We will continue to work with everyone to hopefully get this done.
At the OLT Hearing, Millcroft Greens will be opposed by Millcroft Against Bad Development, City of Burlington, Halton Region, Conservation Halton and Millcroft Greenspace Alliance. The Hearing is scheduled for 19 days. Each of the opposing parties have numerous expert witnesses that will testify at the Hearing. All expert witnesses have prepared witness statements. Our team will be working with Allan Ramsay (expert planner) and Chantal deSereville (Weir Foulds as legal counsel) to prepare for Allan's testimony then cross examination at the hearing.
Continue our fundraising to reach our most recent $30,000 goal.
With respect to MAD's approach to the OLT hearings, we have decided that the most effective and cost efficient strategy is to engage the best legal counsel and planning expert to represent us at the Hearing.
