The City of Burlington and Millcroft Greens Corporation, will take part in a facilitation process guided by the Office of Provincial Land and Development.
The process will look at agreeable land-use options for the portion of the Millcroft Golf Course that is not currently before the Ontario Land Tribunal.
Members of the advocacy group Millcroft Against Bad Development welcome the new move.
“This step demonstrates council’s proactive leadership and commitment to environmental stewardship, which helps the facilitation process while ultimately supporting the protection of these lands. Early action by council will help set the tone for meaningful and focussed dialogue,” says Kirk Robinson from Millcroft Against Bad Development.
This latest step comes after Burlington city council’s motion last month calling for a Minister’s Zoning Order of the lands.
The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing instead recommended a mediated dialogue between the city and the developer.
Part of the Millcroft Golf Course is currently being redeveloped into new homes. Hundreds of trees have already been cut down to make way for 90 homes in the area.
The City of Burlington and its residents want to ensure that other land on the course remains untouched.
The mediated discussions would be about this land.
