Question Of The Day? Why Two Groups?
MAD's Question of the Day. Why are there two groups?
There seems to be some confusion circulating among our residents. Yes, there are two organizations focused on organizing the community voice and resources in opposition to Millcroft Green’s application to infill the golf course with residential housing. Millcroft Against Bad Development and Millcroft Greenspace Alliance.
In early 2020 two groups formed, MAD and We Love Millcroft (WLM) with the same objectives A year and a half later the groups consolidated under the MAD banner. The founding member of WLM chose to continue on as WLM. Subsequently, the name was changed to Millcroft Greenspace Alliance with no apparent interest in joining MA.D.
M.A.D. formally opposes all efforts to introduce residential development on the existing Millcroft Golf Course. MAD cites the City’s Official Plan, in conjunction with the golf course’s current zoning of O1 (Open Space), with most sections designated as part of the Natural Heritage System. Section 2.3.5 of the Official Plan states that: “Lands identified as Natural Heritage System, Major Parks, and Open Space, include the City’s Natural Heritage System and lands designated for Major Parks and Open Space.
M.A.D. has always been committed to preserving our Millcroft Golf Course in its entirety, as an 18 hole, par 70, 5735 yard course. We are not advocating for parks. We have the same goal as Millcroft Greenspace Alliance but have employed different strategies to reach it, namely that we’ve hired experts in the field to guide us the entire way. We are unaware whether MGA has hired experts for guidance.
