City Permits Tree Clean Up

It has been more than a month since the first trees were cut down at Millcroft Golf Course to pave way for a new housing development, an incident that the city says goes against some conditions of the Pre-Servicing Agreement.

In his newsletter, Ward 6 councillor Angelo Bentivegna wrote a cease-work order immediately after learning of the activity.

“The City’s Forestry division then initiated an investigation under the Private Tree By-law, which governs the removal of trees that are not otherwise approved through plans of subdivision or site plan control,” Bentivegna wrote. “As of now, that investigation remains active, and the City is not in a position to comment on possible outcomes until it concludes.”

Millcroft Greens has submitted a permit application to remove the tree debris currently on site. That type of permit – called Municipal Consent – is required when contractors need to access or cross city property. No work can proceed to remove the debris until a decision on that permit has been made.
