PC Candidate Effie Triantafilopoulos

Effie Triantafilopoulos-Progressive Conservative Party

Since being elected in 2018, as your Member of Provincial Parliament for Oakville North-Burlington, I have worked hard to protect our community’s character and quality of life. That’s why I continue to listen and work closely with our community regarding concerns of building on cherished greenspaces. Growth must be managed in a way that enhances our city, not compromises it.

The Ontario Liberals, however, want to impose radical housing changes that would completely transform Burlington’s beauty and character. They are proposing four-storey buildings in every residential neighbourhood. Bonnie Crombie’s housing plan would have irreversible consequences for our city. She can’t be trusted.

My commitment to stand up for our community has never wavered, and I will continue to fight for Burlington’s future. If re-elected, you can be assured that I will continue to be a strong and dedicated voice for Burlington at Queen’s Park.

Bonnie Crombie and the Ontario Liberals are pushing a radical housing plan that would drastically change our community’s neighbourhoods, allowing dense high-rise developments to be built with little to no local input. Below are some of the key elements of their plan and the devastating impact they would have on our community:

Bonnie Crombie’s Plan:

● End exclusionary zoning to create gentle density by allowing up to four units and four storeys on every residential lot.

● Permit construction of six-plexes if the project meets the affordable housing funding criteria set by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

This means that, established neighbourhoods could result in four- or six-plexes, which would drastically alter the community. Streets lined with single-family homes could see multiple-unit buildings constructed right next door, leading to increased traffic, parking shortages, and the loss of the green space and character that make Burlington special.

Bonnie Crombie’s Plan:

● Promote and incentivize mid-rise buildings on our main roads and near transit corridors by allowing six to eleven storey buildings.

● Encourage building high-rises around major transit stations by removing height limits.

Under this plan, areas in Burlington could see six- to eleven-storey buildings imposed as of right, meaning there would be no opportunity for local input or appeals. This would dramatically increase density in areas that are not designed for such expansion, leading to congestion, overcrowding in schools, and excessive pressure on municipal services.

Bonnie Crombie’s plan eliminates height restrictions near transit, which could lead to 80- 90 storey towers around GO stations. This would fundamentally change Burlington’s skyline and result in density with inadequate infrastructure to support it. Our local roads would become overwhelmed, and our City’s small-business charm would be overshadowed by massive high-rise clusters with no regard for proper urban planning.

The Ontario Liberals’ housing plan is reckless and out of touch with our community’s needs. Instead of community-driven, thoughtful development, Bonnie Crombie’s plan would impose changes that would permanently alter Burlington.

I have consistently worked to protect Burlington’s character, and I will continue to stand up for responsible growth, using every tool available including advocating for Ministerial Zoning Orders  (MZO) where appropriate, to ensure that our community remains a great place to live, work and raise a family.

From Day One, I have worked in lock step with community leaders and the Mayor and Council of Burlington, to stop the development of the 92 homes on Millcroft Golf course, with the aim to preserve the existing greenspaces, protect the abundant wildlife and maintain the area as a flood management system.

I strongly support the community through the City’s request for a Ministerial Zoning Order and will continue to work with the community and City to advocate with the Ontario government. I also want to recognize the dedication and commitment of the community leaders and the thousands of residents who have signed petitions which I have filed with the Ontario Legislature. You are and have been exceptional partners, andwith our Burlington and Halton political leaders, we will continue to advocate for ourcommunity greenspace.

Sincerely,

Effie Triantafilopoulos

Progressive Conservative Candidate for Oakville North-Burlington
