Unflood Ontario Includes M.A.D. In Update!
Dear Friend,
Natural Infrastructure map now live!
To help spread the word about Natural Infrastructure, we've featured over 30 Natural Infrastructure projects in the Greater Golden Horseshoe in this new map. Each entry includes a picture and a brief description that we hope will inspire people to install natural infrastructure in their communities.
Share this great new video with those curious about depaving!
Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Depaving is a 60-minute webinar featuring depaving experts Heather Ray (from GreenUP Peterborough) and Helena Cousins (from Green Venture). It starts with a great introduction to depaving by Heather followed by a Q&A where Helena and Heather answer audience questions all about depaving.
Why Natural Infrastructure is Vital for Toronto!
Unflood Ontario features on pages 81-83 of the Toronto Foundation’s 2021 Vital Signs report. Our own Franz Hartmann discusses the role of natural infrastructure in combating various climate-related threats - such as flooding and the urban heat island effect - in the city.
Natural Infrastructure is Growing!
Last week Sheridan College’s Mission Zero and OakvilleGreen joined forces to depave an area of unused pavement at the college - replacing it with a garden of native grasses and shrubs. This new garden will not only absorb stormwater but will also provide habitat for local species and help reduce the heat island effect. Plus, it’s easy on the eyes!
Burlington Underwater?
Millcroft Against Bad Development is asking for Burlington residents to share their flooding stories and photos. They aim to demonstrate the need to revise the floodplain map to include more at-risk areas. Residents can email admin@millcroftagainstdevelopment.ca.
